Alba is in opleiding om Nederlands en Europees octrooigemachtigde te worden op het gebied van de chemie met een focus op biotechnologie en microbiologie.
Alba beschikt over kennis zoals virologie, microbiologie, biotechnologie, synthetische biologie, next generation sequencing, bioinformatica, vaccinologie en biologische chemie. Zij studeerde aan de University of Edinburgh, waar zij een master in synthetische biologie en biotechnologie behaalde. Haar masterscriptie was gefocused op de productie van polymeren met behulp van genetisch gemodificeerde bacteriën.
Voordat zij bij HOYNG ROKH MONEGIER in dienst trad, was ze een Marie Skłodowska-Curie PhD-fellow bij een internationaal farmaceutisch bedrijf. Haar onderzoeksgebied was de ontdekking en karakterisering van nieuwe virussen die veestapels aantasten. Ze specialiseerde zich in metagenomica, diagnostiek, vaccinontwikkeling en genetische manipulatie. Alba is (co-)auteur van verschillende publicaties in virologie en life science tijdschriften.
