Bart is gespecialiseerd in het voeren van procedures op het gebied van het intellectuele eigendomsrecht, met een focus op nationale en internationale octrooizaken. Chambers Global, Legal 500 en Who’s Who Legal on Patents bevelen hem in Nederland en daarbuiten aan voor zijn werk als octrooiadvocaat.
Bart’s praktijk omvat de gebieden elektronica, telecommunicatie en computer gerelateerde technologie en ook het gebied van de geneesmiddelen. In deze gebieden staat hij toonaangevende Nederlandse en buitenlandse multinationals bij, zowel waar het gaat om het procederen voor de nationale gerechten als om het coördineren van internationale octrooigeschillen.
In aanvulling op zijn procespraktijk adviseert Bart over nationale en internationale octrooistrategieën en staat cliënten bij in het opzetten en handhaven van hun licentieprogramma’s (onder meer door middel van grensbeslagen onder de Anti-piraterij Verordening). Bart doceert aan de opleiding voor Nederlandse octrooigemachtigden.
Bart van den Broek heeft in het rechtsgebiedenregister van de Nederlandse orde van advocaten het rechtsgebied Intellectueel eigendomsrecht als hoofdrechtsgebied geregistreerd. Op grond van deze registratie is hij verplicht elk kalenderjaar volgens de normen van de Nederlandse orde van advocaten tien opleidingspunten te behalen op dit hoofdrechtsgebied.

- Intel v. Mahltig: Vertegenwoordigt Intel in octrooiprocedure mbt computertechnologie. De rechtbank vernietigde het Nederlandse deel van Mahtlig’s Europese octrooi en verwierp de gevraagde maatregelen.
- Philips v. Archos: Trad op voor Philips in inbreukprocedures mbt Philips’s UMTS en LTE octrooi portfolio. In deze zaak sprak de Nederlandse rechter zich voor het eerst na Huawei/ZTE uit over FRAND en verwierp deze het hierop gebaseerde verweer van Archos.
- Sony v. LG: Vertegenwoordigde Sony Corporation in procedures gestart door LG mbt haar BluRay octrooien. De rechter hief de door LG uitgevoerde beslagmaatregelen met betrekking tot Sony’s Playstations op en verbood LG om verdere beslag- en grensmaatregelen te treffen.
- Philips v. SK Kassetten: Nederlandse zaak parallel aan de Duitse Orange Book beslissing. Trad op voor Philips tegen SK Kassetten mbt de verkoop van niet-gelicentieerde CD-R en CD-RW discs. In deze zaak liet de Nederlandse rechter zich voor het eerst uit over FRAND en verwierp het hierop gebaseerde verweer van SK Kassetten.
- GE Healthcare v. Medisize: Vertegenwoordigde GE Healthcare in een voorlopig getuigenverhoor aanhangig gemaakt door Medisize op grond van vermeende octrooi-inbreuk op haar octrooi op een ademhalingssysteem. Uitgebreid onderzoek naar, en aanval door GE Healthcare op, de geldigheid van het octrooi ingeroepen door Medisize.
